Yup, in order, that's:

  • Sugar
  • Corn Syrup
  • SHELLAC!

In confectioner's glaze, 35% of it is shellac. Shellac is a resin secreted by the female lac bug found in Asia.. Shellac is safe to eat and all, and other candies are made with shellac, like Junior Mints, Sugar Babies, Whoppers and Milk Duds, but does that make it right? This is the same stuff that they use to make high-gloss varnish, as well as primer, sealants and phonograph records.

So to all you candy corn lovers, you might as well just lick a table.

The proper =thing to do with candy corn? Throw it in the trash!
