Baltimore Has One of the Most Expensive, Longest Commutes in the Country

A recent study by the real estate website Clover found that annually Baltimore commuters spend on average $9,206.43 on their commute, and take about 31 minutes to get to work. Out of the 50 most-populated metros, Baltimore ranked number seven on the list of most expensive commutes and number six on the list of longest commutes.

To calculate the cost of commuting Clover estimated the cost of fuel, maintenance, and opportunity cost (amount of money someone could have earned while commuting).

 

Here are the 10 most expensive commutes in the country:

Washington D.C. - $12,015.65

San Jose, CA - $11,853.08

San Francisco, CA - $11,377.23

New York, NY - $10,569.31

Seattle, WA - $10,131.62

Boston, MA - $9,716.26

Baltimore, MD - $9,206.43

Phoenix, AZ - $9,190.22

Denver, CO - $9,055.87

Sacramento, CA - $9,005.96

1. Washington – 37.04 minutes

2. New York – 35.47 minutes

3. San Francisco – 32.46 minutes

4. Riverside – 32 minutes

5. Atlanta – 31.73 minutes

6. Baltimore – 31.66 minutes

7. Denver – 31.34 minutes

8. Virginia Beach – 31.1 minutes

9. San Jose – 31.05 minutes
